Job, Renfair, Avatar - My Life

What has been up in my life since that old-as-dirt journal entry?

I got a job! I'm very excited and happy and all that etc. but it means I have to move (not soon, but once I graduate), which I don't like so much. I've been in the same city for the whole of my 23 years of existence though - I think a change will do me good. Anyone know of neato things to do in Dallas?

I managed to pull together a sort of outfit for RenFair, it still isn't finished but it was wearable and I'll put pictures up of where it stands ASAP, I like where it's going!

Very busy with school, not a lot of time for fun art-related stuff... and everything I have done lately seems to be fanart for Avatar. I've descended into the insanity and madness of Avatard-dom like Slim Pickins a la Dr. Strangelove. It's a wild ride my friends. I don't think there's any help for me.

It's getting near the holidays so I love  EVERYONE, and everything right now.

Sorry guys, I'm in the middle of trying to graduate and get a job and my life is all sorts of buckets of crazy right now. The only art I've had time to do has been in the margins of my notebooks in class. But I'm taking a moment to update my journal.

:icongoldenspring: and :iconquite-possibly: and :iconkingandrewi: tagged me (check them out, they're made of awesome) and I'm feeling indulgent and inclined to bite so here are my 8 interesting things about me. I guess they're interesting. I mean, I can't put the REALLY interesting stuff on here.

Ok, rules go like this:
1. Post these rules
2. Each person tagged must post 8 random (hopefully interesting) facts about themselves
3. Tags should write a blogpost of these facts
4. At the end of the post 8 more bloggers are tagged and named
5. Go to their blog and leave a comment telling them they're tagged

*me-yelling at my roomate :iconjb-612:* “Hey Jessica, what’s something interesting about me?”

*Jess-talking around a toothbrush* “besides the fact that you’re totally bat-shit loco?”

1. I have a giant negative birthmark on my left shoulder (negative birthmark = lack of pigment rather than excess pigment) it’s about the size of a splayed hand and is shaped like Alaska.

2. I’m one of those genetic freaks who are born blonde and stay blonde. I’m the only person in my extended family who stayed blonde out of childhood (my theory: the 1/16 Norwegian genes got sick and fed up with being recessive, formed a Viking raiding party, and voila! I was born).

3. I was born and raised in central texas (yes I do say y’all, but it’s only because I’m bitter that English doesn’t have a second person plural, and I’m a big proponent of linguistic efficiency). I'll be the first to admit it...Texans are crazy, in a good way.

4. Vying with Texas for first in the affection of my heart is Scotland. I studied Business Law and Law of the EU at the U of Edinburgh for a summer and sometimes I think I love Scotland more than Christmas and kittens.

5. I’m an educational masochist. I’m graduating with three degrees (two of them honors degrees) and 230 hours of coursework. I take an average of 20 hours a semester.

6. I always, always, always root for the underdog. I can't help it.

7. I taught myself to sew via trial and error by altering vintage dresses. Heavy on the error.

8. Okay... so this goes completely against the past 50 years of women's lib, but one of my life goals is to be Molly Weasley. I want a crazy awesome house, a husband who drives me a little crazy but who I adore, and I want a whole passel of little freckly ginger kiddles. Bonus points if I can train them to drop random British slang and get friends named Harry and Hermione.

wow I babble a lot.

and now for the evil part:

I TAG (only 4 I know! But someone has to stop the insanity)

The Corset Bug

Old journal was OLD.

I'm experimenting with some new styles and subjects, also I just found a whole heap of art supplies I'd forgotten that I owned. Does anyone have any suggestions for working with soft pastels? They lend themselves to more free-form, and 'soft' styles of art than my usual style and I haven't been able to do anything with them that pleases me yet.

The corset bug is starting to niggle at the back of my mind again. I'm feeling so uninspired though and I'm about to start school again, so I don't think much hand sewing is going to happen. Maybe a victorian corset then? (hrrmm... that means I'd have to order corset hardwear, and that means spending money... grrr). Ren fest is also coming up and I need to actually make a costume this time. I will NOT allow myself to cheat out a costume this year.

Thought I'd jump on the Deathly Hallows journal train here even though I'm like two weeks late. And that's where I've been for those two weeks....no I'm not THAT slow of a reader I've had family in from out of town and then friends in from out of town and then schoolwork on top of it all and I didn't want to start until I was sure I would have the opportunity to finish within a day or so and today was that first opportunity. It's been cramping my internet style - I've been so paranoid that it would get spoiled for me that I haven't been on DA or hardly any other sites and I've gone hermit - no TV no radio, minimal leaving of the house...now that it's over I feel like an emotional punching bag, and it's weird that this 10 year saga of my life is just...over.

ANYWAY....So there shouldn't be any new deviations for a while, though I've some stuff in progress including

1. A pair of hand quilted silk hanging pockets to go with my...

2. ...Pocket hoops

3. I'm also playing around with expanding my 'feminist fairytale' theme that started with my rapunzel piece (though I don't like that 'feminist' has such negative connotations.

4. I've also been playing with the idea of doing some modern interpretations of saints (y'know how in old paintings they are pictured with an attribute which identifies them) - but I'm not catholic and I didn't know if people would be WAY offended or what.

So I'm back to the land of the living, very pleased to be back on DA and to no longer be internet deprived. YAY!

'lo lovelies! I've won a hairstyling contest hosted by :icondedredhed: in celebration of Deviant Appreciation day! :boogie: there were some great entries and you should check them out while she still has them up on her page.

this is my entry

it was super-fantastic fun (although posting silly pictures of myself on publicly accessible forums makes me a tad squeezy) and I'm led to believe once more that ppl should have more fun with their hair and clothing. Modern dress is So boring.
